The 5 days wildlife and gorilla trekking safari to Rwanda, this self-drive safari will take you to Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking and Akagera National Park for wildlife watching and boat cruise in Rwanda.
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
You will meet and greet the 4×4 Rwanda Ltd representative at Kigali International Airport and then he will show you the car, and inspect it before you sign the car rental agreement. later after the signing of the paperwork, you will be ready to start your safari by driving towards the eastern side of Rwanda to Akegera National Park which is located along the Tanzanian border. The park was established in 1934 to protect animals and vegetation in three eco-regions: savannah, mountain, and swamp. In Akagera National Park you will get a chance to spot different wild animals like; large herds of buffalo, giraffes, and zebra grazing in the savannah, lucky tourists to Akagera National Park might also get a chance to see elephants coming from the jungle to drink at the lakes. Akagera National Park is home to over 500 different species of birds, which makes a bird lover’s paradise. you will reach in the park late afternoon and you will have your dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 2: Game drives and boat trip on Lake Ihema
On this day you will wake up with a cup of coffee/tea and enjoy an early morning game drive in the park, where you will have an opportunity to see animals like; elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffalos, giraffes, hyenas, crocodiles, and many other animals plus birdlife. After this fantastic adventure, you will return to the lodge for a full breakfast and relax at the lodge as you wait for lunch. After lunch, you will enjoy a canoe ride on Lake Ihema in the afternoon where you will get a chance to see a lot of crocodiles relaxing at the banks of the lake, hippos, and others like elephants, and zebras coming to drink water.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On this day, you will have breakfast at the lodge in Akagera National Park, and then you will hit the road and transfer to Volcanoes National Park in the northwestern part of the country, home to the rare and endangered mountain gorillas. You will have a relaxed afternoon at the lodge as you wait for the next day’s gorilla trekking in the park. You can spend the overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, or Kinigi Guest House in Volcanoes National Park.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast at the lodge, you will have to drive to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a short briefing from the park rangers before you continue, and enter the forest in search of the mountain gorillas in this thick jungle. The time taken while tracking gorillas in the forest is unpredictable, but it may take 2 – 8 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas in search of food and shelter. You will be allowed a maximum of one hour in the presence of mountain gorillas. Take photographs and enjoy the baby gorillas as they swing from one tree branch to another. Gorilla trekking is the best wildlife experience in Africa.
After this memorable experience, you will return to the lodge for late lunch and relax as you wait for the evening nature walk around the par, where you will get a chance to spot different bird species in the part.
Day 5: Departure
On this, you will have breakfast lodge in the morning and then you will drive back to Kigali for last-minute shopping and then transfer to the airport in case your departure flight is scheduled on that day.
